Satellite Radio Subscribers Vent Over Channel Changes
Thursday November 13, 2008
On Wednesday (11/12/08), the newly merged SIRIUS XM Radio announced new channel lineups on both XM and SIRIUS Satellite Radio. As can be expected, not everyone is happy about the changes.
"Its horrible…I'm going to HD radio!," comments one visitor to the Radio blog at About.com. See more reactions and add your own if you wish. Read more.

I’m in shock…! Where’s Bobby Bennett — Soul Street — channel 62 ???
When I heard about the merge, I thought it would be a win/win situation for everyone. Today, I could not find my Spanish radio stations. It was replaced with a mediocre, so call Latin world, of Spanish radio stations that are worthless and boring. I guess the merge is a win situation for XM radio, but a loss situation for subscribers like me. I guess I will be canceling my subscription. Hasta la Vista XM radio.
I’m miffed about the loss of XM 83 Chrome. I know some folks don’t want to admit they like the old disco stuff, but I’m irked enough to come out and state my discontent. Bring Chrome Back!!
They’re now playing radio edits instead of uncut tracks on their Hip-Hop (ch. 40) and R&B (ch. 50) stations. Isn’t the whole point of satellite radio supposed to be that, as a pay service, you get uncensored tracks? I’m shocked and hoping they’ll return to normal once the dust settles.
I can not believe what they did! They tie you up to a contract then completly eliminate the only channels that I listened to and now if I cancel I have to pay an extra $100!!!! Its outragous! If they changed my original subscription then why should I be obligated to that contract!
I payed to listen to the few Latino stations that the service offered and now they are replaced with one mediocre so called station! This is nothing more than a slap on the face of all Hispanics and Latinos!!! I am pleased to say I cancelled my membership just a few minutes ago!
I think it will all work out after they realize their pissing people off
They’ll start putting the consumers first I miss the vault
But deep tracks seems ok. Plus I get to hear the bob Dylan radio
Theme show now.
Maybe we give them some time to get things right.
I know in the past working with sirius had
Always been agood thing, as martha says ho
Anyway how bout hanging In there give em a chance to tweak it to fit most
absolutely unsatisfied I used to liste beyond jazz , lucy ,and they are not there anymore by the way absolutley rude that without notice or anouncements they change the stations around or caclledthem , i am cancelling my suscription
I am cancelling ,, My favorite stations are gone, Boombox was awesome. I can not find anything to listen to on my commute. No song alerts have popped up on my radio since the change, I used to get at least five alerts a day. I feel that Sirius XM does not care enough to keep my business so I am leaving.. It was a fun ride but now I am just going to listen to my Ipod and sulk.
This programing change stinks. I WANT CHROME BACK!!! Tried talking to customer service and received no help. XM should have sent out new program guides showing what was changing and listing all of the channel in numerical order. The XM website was useless. When I turned on the former Chrome station it was a “comedy” channel with a guy yelling “Mother ^%$#$^”. What if children had been in the car when that happened. They should have left all of the channels on the lineup and added the Sirus channels to it. Management did a poor job in communicating this to the subscribers. I also sent two emails and so far have only received “canned” emails back. I also complained to customer service to a guy whop really did not care. My suggestion to all is to break your contracts as soon as you can. I know I will be and I will be also looking at an MP3 player to take XM’s place.
Backspin 43 was a great channel for the people
who enjoyed old school Hip-Hop. I am not into Hip-Hop of today. But hearing the songs I grew up to brings back good memories.I’m sure that they are many more like me. You had a good thing there and you took it away. I’m really surprised that you people at sirius xm didn’t see it.
They took away CHROME, one of the best channels one their service. Yes it may be older music BUT I have never even been a day late on my bill. I bet they can’t say that for their Hip Hop listeners. If they took away Chrome at least they could have put the Strobe (Sirius Channel) in Its place, not as good but close.
Guess what, they are getting a double whammy from me. 1. I pay extra at my business for the music portion (residential its included), so I am disconecting the music portion. 2. Good Bye Sirius at home. I’ll go back to supporting the local FM stations. Or perhaps HD Radio. I have no contract on either, this will be done on Monday morning. I sold all of my Sirius stock this afternoon (at a loss of course) just out of spite.
John
Way to go John. Hopefully XM is listening. They cannot afford to piss to many of us off as they are deep in debt (see Last Weeks Business Week). We all need to take a stand on our compliants. GOOD JOB JOHN!!!
I loved channel 4 and now it a 40’s station! Who listens to 1940’s music and what is with the silly “DJ” chatter??
Our new car came with a one year subscription and I loved it, but now I would not renew.
Losing Backspin and Boombox is awful.
Instructing Backspin fans to listen to Hiphop Nation is like telling someone who loves ’70s music to listen to the ’90s channel because it may play an oldie once in a while.
Boombox is great driving music.
Didn’t give customers a survey, or prior warning. What a joke.
Very pissed off. II had an subscrition to both companys nad neithere one gave any notice. Suite 62, Old school Hip Hop on 65 were great channels. It would be nice if they would commit on this. VERY $$$$ $$$$$ OFF!!!!!
Ditto for me. Backspin and the punk channel were part of the reason I subscribed to Sirius even though my wife already had an XM sub in her Honda. Very disappointed with the way they went about the changes and all the missing/merged content. We all bought a certain “package” and this is bait and switch for sure. Most likely “one and done” with Sirius, half price for XM since it is now the same animal, if we bother at all. Thanks for listening.
XM died because it was mediocre at best. It was way to homoginized, sirius cared about the listener and had finely crafted channels for all peoples taste. XM should have just died. Now you have tainted sirius’s channels with mediocre content from a failed company, why. No buzzsaw, no backspin, No more subscription. Idiot pencil pushers ruin evrything good.
I can’t believe that both old school hip-hop stations (The Rhyme on XM and Backspin on Sirius) were completely removed with no similar replacement. They “recommend” 67 – Hip Hop nation but that is NOT the same. I’m hoping they realize their mistake and bring one back. I also read here they removed BoomBox as well. This was another great station I listened to when renting Hertz cars for work. That makes 3 of the stations I listened to most gone yet there there are seperate Grateful Dead and Jam band stations. Is it really necessary to have 2 stations dedicated to the same specific genre of rock and roll?
I am so angry abot this……I will be dicontinuing my service. I had Sirius in my car and my husband had XM in his truck and I always liked the stations on XM better, but now I don’t feel that its worth having either one…so we might as well listen to the local stations for free!
I agree….I can’t stand the new line-up. All the combined channels are watered down and horrible. X Country being gone is horrible…it’s replacement is annoying at best. No more Saturday Zydeco. No more ecclectic country mixes. And no more Fred…whatever is replacing it is re-running top 40 music from the early 80’s. And don’t even get me started on the sudden appearance of all these disc jockeys that just don’t SHUT UP. XM just didn’t have that before. And please bring back my Upop. I will give it about 3-4 more months…if it doesn’t adjust…I dump it. I have an ipod and over 2000 songs on itunes. I’ll live.
Never mind the issues with station selection: some of us have been left with NOTHING. I drive a 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander with a built in receiver featuring Sirius. My 6-month free trial ran out last week and I ponied up the money for a 1-year subscription. When the channel reconfig happened, my receiver stopped working completely. We called Sirius on Thursday 11/13/08 to complain and they said that the were aware of the issue, as a number of car models with built in receivers did not accept the reconfig. They told us the issue would be resolved within 24 hours. When nothing changed we called again today 11/15 and were told we would have to contact our Mitsubishi dealer. So, effectively, I just paid for a one year subscription to a service which was altered days after I purchased it in such a manner as to be incompatible with my equipment. I consider that breach of contract and I intend to pursue the matter.
Satellite radio was not an impulsive purchase for me. I decided on Sirius after researching both XM and Sirius because – get this – I liked Sirius better. Had I liked XM’s programming better, I would have gone with XM.
Now, 3 of my most listened to channels are gone. They have been replaced their alleged XM counterparts. Once again, had I wanted XM, I would have gotten XM. Thanks for forcing it upon me.
Back to CD’s for me.
We have an XM contract….nice to know of channel changes….found out only after noticing some of the preprogrammed channels were different. Trying to find them was useless, trying to find ones similar to them was useless, and not getting any kind of notice in writing from XM or Sirius as to the changes and what they would be was pretty low. You’d think they might give a hang about the subscribers since…gee…they are the ones paying for the service….and without them they won’t have any service to offer. Thanks XM for the notice of the merge and thanks Sirius for letting us know of the new channels.
I had no idea this merger was happening until I turned on XM 77 Audio Visions a couple of nights ago (one of my favorite stations to do yoga to) and got a jazz station. Then I tried to find another station and it wasn’t even there anymore. Went to top tracks XM 46 and it’s now something similar but I don’t like it as well-the disc jockeys are annoying-they talk too much and are trying too hard to sound hip when they’re not!
It would have been nice to have gotten something in my e-mail or regular mail telling me this was happening and what the new lineup would be. I’m really glad I’m not locked into some contract and pay month-to-month because I’m not sure I’m sticking around. Talk about poor customer service-these guys take the cake!
I was a big fan of XM channel 12 – X country radio. The current #12 under the merger –Outlaw radio — is mediocre at best. One of the best things about “X” is they put the music ahead of the radio personalities. Where do I now for Dave Alvin, the Derailers, etc., coupled with consistant exposure to lesser heard (but equally noteworthy) artists and new acts. X was sort like a satilite version of KPIG radio in the Gilroy, CA area. Sad. Real sad. Wait……Son Volt is now on Outlaw Radio…….maybe there is some hope.
Ohtli just like you I was pissed off when I discovered that the spanish stations were pretty much gone it was a total of 3 and they brought it down to 1, wtf, what kind of study did xm/sirius do, in what study did they find that the hispanic population decrease, there should be at least 10 and thats nothing, but overall the new lineup sux, when I first heard of the merge I was excited and thought they would combine all channels, then they do this bull, I’m definitely cancelling guess I’m back to burning music!!!
I used 4 xm channels regularly. Now two of them are gone. When I chose xm over sirius it was because I think xm has superior music programming. Xm HAD a modern jazz channel. It’s been replaced by a jam band channel. Jam bands are not modern jazz. I don’t think the “coffee house” channel has the quality or depth of programming that xm cafe had. I think Howard Stern is a pimple on the ass of society. Is this the beginning of the end of satellite radio?
THE NEW XM SIRIUS LINEUP “SUCKS” , AFTER MY SUBSCRIPTION EXPIRES, I AM REPLACING IT WITH A 80 GB I-POD THAT I CAN PROGRAM UP TO 50,000 SONGS AND NEVER AGAIN HAVE TO PAY A MONTHLY FEE FOR PROGRAMING. BRING BACK THE XM LINE UP OR ITS THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF SATELLITE RADIO. DID I SAY THE NEW PROGRAMMING “SUCKS”, DOES SIRIUS REALLY CARE IF WE ARE PISSED OFF OR NOT. THE ANSWER IS NO.
I don’t know where they got their choices but they suck. I lost several stations, including one key one AUDIO VISIONS which was a channel of choice for our family.
I have already paid for a few months yet, but I am plannning on NOT RENEWING my account on our GM cars.
Losing sirius Blues 74 was bad enough, its XM counterpart does not measure up. But no Shemikia Copeland? Goodbye Sirius XM, and good luck. with your financial situation, you will need a lot of luck.
All ready canceled my subscription, it took for ever because as soon as I mentioned the word cancelation they were hanging the phone..
removeing the spanish stations to replace them with a lame station was really stupid…
No backspin, no boombox, no strobe?! I finally got a letter from Sirius/XM (I have been writing 5 emails daily and will continue to do so!) saying they sent out surveys and kept the channels that got the most positive listener feedback. Hmmm sounds like voting in Florida to me! Who did they survey and WHEN? I never even got any notification in advance WHICH stations were cut! Why not send out a survey saying “WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU SINCE WE WILL BE MAKING SOME PROGRAMMING CHANGES?” I never got a survey, and I will not be renewing. I loaded internet radio on my Nokia phones and bought an AUX cord to hook it up in my car if they don’t bring back Backspin!
I can be this disappointed with free FM radio so why pay for misery!?
CLASSIC HIP HOP IS DEAD – SIRIUS KILLED IT!
Please visit the URL below, its a petition to bring back 66 RAW and 65 the Rhyme. We have now have over 300 signatures and its still growing! I couldn’t believe my ears when I drove to work on the 12th expecting to hear LEO G’s Blaze session and it wasnt there! I turned the knob to 65 the Rhyme and it was completely removed! Blindsided, and betrayed is how I felt. Please help join in and get our music back!
http://www.petitiononline.com/RAWRHYME/petition.html
My sub ends in two months. If they don’t bring back backspin 43 I’m not renewing. Way to kill your brand loyalty Sirius
Please bring back channel 65 (old-skool hip-hop)!! Please, please, please! Your current hip-hop station should just be called the lil’ wayne channel!! – Also, could someone please explain why the latin stations were consolidated into one? Playing Mexican tejano on the same station as Dominican merengue is like playing country & heavy metal on the same station!! This merger has been horrible so far and if I wasn’t a die-hard New York baseball fan living in Texas, I would cancel immediately!!
Outlaw Country for X Country? No Way!! Some hillbilly DJ dropping the f bomb, playing old mainstream country and woman in the morning reading recipes in not a suitable substitute for X Country.
I hate this new lineup. I want soulstreet back and the personalities that go with it. I am seriously thinking of discontinuing my service if they don’t bring back the xm channels. I hate sirius. I am mad as!!@@@. I don’t like the channels or the music.
Hello Satellite people!!!! Hello, Hello!!!!
I’m your “paying” customer. Don’t you think you should have at least gone through the motions of asking what I and others like me want from you? You don’t have advertisers to pay your freight, it’s “us,” the people who subscribe that support you.
Now, you’ve changed what I signed up for. I ain’t paying you $100 to cancel the contract and go to HD radio that is commercial-free also.
You’re in a subscriber biz now, and it’s not ratings that tell you what’s good or bad. It’s the SUBSCRIBER!!!!
Hello, satellite people! Are you listening to US???????
I have something to say to the person or persons that make the executive decisions at Sirius -
We have a contract, you and I. While I pay monthly, we still have a moral agreement, and it is based on our word. I have given my word to pay you $12.95 every month for your service. I have kept that word for almost two years, and have never been late.
You, on the other hand, have broken your word. The changes you have made are a complete mockery of the quality programing that I signed up for.
I am a life long music lover, and Disorder was easily one of the best radio stations I have ever heard. Your decision to dump it is bad enough. But moving David Johansen’s Mansion Of Fun, arguably the best show on radio, to mid week midnights on the watered down Loft tells me that you are completely clueless.
That’s ok though, you’re execs and allowed to be totally disassociated from taste. But your word, that’s another matter. Everyone is expected to be held to that.
You have a short window of time to fix this breech of trust. Bring back Disorder and all is forgiven. Then I can go on telling everyone I know that Sirius Satellite Radio is the best thing ever.
But continue with this travesty and I can only conclude that you could care less about me and all your other subscribers, and you will soon be remembered as a really fun experiment that had a lot of potential, but ultimately failed through it’s own ignorance and lack of morals.
The choice is yours.
xmsirius.Im a jazz listener, first they cancel “la luna” latin jazz, then “beyond jazz” new jazz, and get this, now we have a channel name “spa” wich will put you to sleep, please jazz fans write to these people. , we need a minimum of 6 jazz stations for all the diverse genres.
Xm is a joke now They did away with channel 10 and renamed it roadhouse or something. You lost Ray Knight and Dan Dixon, No more calling in request. Country Dans show even had Droctors to help you. Plus different enertainers on live. I have 4 units but wonder if I need them anymore am/fm is free and just about as good now that they have made there changes.
Sirius Spa station 72 is not the same as Audio Vision channel 77. I also dislike the dj like qualitiies of the Sirius classical stations—it is not a good fit for classical music. We are considering going Radio365 if service options to do not change. Radio365 has way more stations and is less expensive.
What about the loss of XM 82 The System
Downright tragic. No, AREA does not even merit mention as a pale substitute
I have have never been so pissed off!!!!The programing changes on XM suck!!!!There were a few people of talent that I liked listening to on XM. “Mat the Cat” He produced a R&B program called “Harlem” Played R&B music that predated rock and roll that was found on the “50s on 5 channel on XM. So I guess I can not hear that anymore!!!! Chrome is even gone!!! Not to mention Bobby Bennet on “Soul Street” I will have to say good bye to SiriusXM.
Along with the rest of the satellite world I am highly pissed off. You wake up just like every other morning and turn on your radio to get pumped up to be raped by the trials and tribulations of work and you can not find your favorite station (which you pay for)and you think well damn something is wrong with my head unit…So now your pissed and you listen to commercial ridden radio cause you have not had a need to put any cd’s in your truck for say months….
So now your at work and your only solace of getting through the day is listening to your FAVORITE XM station on your PC. So you now can’t find your station there so you you go to the website of the service (that you pay for) and find that the service (that you PAY for) has changed your programming, deleted your stations (that you PAY for) without notice or consideration for the customers who pay their salaries and goes against the adage that the customer comes first and you try to send the customer service an email to your distaste…NOw you have to go through the day without the service (that you PAY for)drive home without the service (that you PAY for) and you get to thinging…How can I get even….ok being the corporate thug I am I think in a business scenario a plan of attack…
Plan of attack is to buy their cheap as stock @ 0.14 cents a share….So I brought 5000 shares and plan to buy another 25000 shares. I would hope that other dissatisfied customers of XM and Sirrus would do the same and force the hand of the socalled experts who can not even give me the common courtesy to give me a reason why they executed every loyal PAYING subscribers right to music.
I guarantee you if all of the subscribers invest in the company and gain control of the stock the company will change the format or risk a mass sell off of the stock bought which would crash the company financially….
Think about it…YOu can voice your opinion as an owner and we could get back our stations….
If you call and threaten to cancel they give you two free months.
but you have to be firm. Eventually they concede saying they will give you 2 months to find new stations.
If enough people affect the cash flow it will eventually be noticed.
And don’t buy Sirius stock – buy APPLE because with the new Sirius line up even Mel Karmizan is asking Santa for an Ipod.
Hello!
I think people are reacting much too soon to all of this! Yes! I too was use to much of the XM programming and I didn’t like to see the loss of Dan, on ten, Catfish on 13, matt the cat on 5 to name a few. The Juke box and silver dollar are greatly missed! I too felt XM had better music than Sirius with some exceptions, I liked Movin Easy and the Bridge. I understand the Bridge will be back in January. I’m not certain what that will mean but I’m looking forward to the Bridge! Since I bought the best of Sirius, I like getting NFL where I now can actually hear it! I think it is great that if one service doesn’t work somewhere, one can probably get the other service especially if a radio comes out which can get both platforms. I of course have been monitoring Email so I knew about a number of the changes. I would agree XM and Sirius certainly did not give all of us appropriate notice or a forum for discussing what should stay and what should go! I of course like the 40s channel and Escape. I guess I like a variety of things and I felt they did a pretty good job of merging programming! It has to be tweeked though! I feel people should write in! It is sad many of the Spanish stations were taken from the lineup. I hope many of these will be reinstated.
I still wonder when the Clear Channel stations will be going? I thought Clear Channel’s contract would be up at the end of this year or the beginning of 2009! I have till October to decide and I’ll give it time! HD Radio? What’s that? I do have one but I only have two religious AM stereo stations and one public station broadcasting an HD signal! The rest are normal AM FM stations. I say despite the changes, Satellite Radio is still miles ahead of local AM FM Radio! I’m staying!
Jim
I just want to add my comments with the hope that Sirius/XM is reading these messages and will realize the huge the mistakes they have made in their program changes. I just completed my third subscription to XM because of how much I enjoyed X Country. We have XM in both cars and I have a Boom Box set up so I could listen the X Country when I’m not in one of the cars. I am totally disgusted with Outlaw Country on Channel 12 – the programming really sucks. I don’t like the music which is out dated and the offensive DJ’s. The title of Outlaw Country should be changed to “Obscure Oldies That Didn’t Sell”
Attn: To the powers that be BRING BACK THE OLD SCHOOL HIP HOP!!!!!!!!!!
Outrage would be putting it mildly. How dare XM change or eliminate the channels that I was in love with and listened to 24/7. I originally signed up for XM some years ago because of it’s channel line-up and last time had signed up for 3-years so I could save on the monthly subscription rate. XM is now worthless to me and luckily my 3-year subscription expires at the end of this month. How’s that for timing!!! I’ll just hold on to my now worthless receiver until such time as XM wises up and restores all of those eliminated or changed channels to their original form (music content and on-air personalities alike). SOUL STREET (XM60)with Dr. Nick and Bobby Bennett along with CHROME (XM83) and the old THE MOVE (XM80)House/Progressive are just some of those channels. XM execs, you have no clue!!! You are all just as bad as most program/music directors for AM/FM radio stations. Keeping old subscribers and attracting new subscribers will be your ultimate failure due to your crazy, out of your mind mindless decisions you have made with your new, made worse channel line-up and content. GOOD LUCK clueless big shots!!! You won’t have me back unless things are changed back to the way they were prior to November 12th satellite radio crash. I’m not my nature to go around berating people and I know it is not a nice thing to do, but I’ve reached my breaking point with this situation. Prove me wrong XM execs and I’ll apologize for all of these awful things I have said!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am on a trial basis with the purchase of my used car with 3 months of XM Radio. I had every intention of signing up for a yearly contract based on the Spanish stations which are rare in our area and as I love country music but esecially the X-Country station, I figured I’d be in heaven listening to this round the clock. I had no idea merging or anything was happening but am extremely disappointed. You had the most awesom choices of Spanish stations and have now limited to ONE and that just isn’t acceptable. I will not be renewing and I think the reality of it is, you will losing many customers. I hope this was worth it to you!!!
The whole reason I subscribe to XM is because I HATE inane DJs talking over songs and ‘greatest hits only’ playlists. While I can’t yet speak to the depth of the new channels’ playlists, I did hear a moronic DJ blather over some songs. As soon as I heard that, I made up my mind to cancel my service.
I knew the merger would be bad (who in their right mind actually believes that a monopoly is good for the consumer???) but I held out hope. After hearing some clownhole DJ sodomize a song, however, I have had enough. F**k XM.
The only bit of good news for me is that I was going to buy a car kit tomorrow and now I can save myself some money.
i will not be renewing my subscription with XM unless some changes are made. All of the old XM hip-hop channels have been replaced with sirius channels. the radio personalities are the worse. bring mizz kitty back now!
I’M WITCHA JAY, I HAD XM FOR OVER 4 YEARS, 3 RADIOS HOME, CAR & WIFE’S CAR & WE GOT IT SOLELY FOR MZ KITTI. SHE WAS TRULY A ONE OF A KIND. NO ONE IN THE WORLD COMPARED TO HER. THE NEW HIP HOP LINE UP (ONLY 2 STATIONS) IS WHACK. DJ’S BOOOORING! I NEED VARIETY. THAT’S WHAT I FELL IN LOVE WITH. I ALSO OWN STOCK IN XM & NOT HAPPY WITH THE DECISIONS THE EXECS HAVE MADE. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!! I ALSO MISS CHROME, SOUL STREET & THE CITY. WHY WERE THE URBAN STATIONS MINIMIZED & THE COUNTRY & ROCK STATIONS INCREASED…
I listened to XM 54 and Comedy 150 for years and now they are replaced by crappy dopplegangers! Lithium 54 (the counterpart) is not anything close to what Lucy 54 was. The music is now listless, whiney and obscure. Also, RawDawg 150 is awful. Why did XM do this to me? XM, you guys should be ashamed for what you did. Nothing like slapping your good paying customers right in the face. Well F**K you too.
HOW CAN WE GET XCOUNTRY BACK? OUTLAW COUNTRY DOESN’T COMPARE. IF I WANTED TO LISTEN TO THAT TYPE OF FORMAT, EXCLUDING THE FOUL-MOUTHED DJs, I COULD TUNE TO ANY ONE OF THE OTHER 5 OR 6 COUNTRY STATIONS. NOW THEY ALL PLAY BASICALLY THE SAME—POP.AND I CAN GET THAT FREE ALONG WITH ALL THE YAPPING, TOO.
GIVE BACK X-COUNTRY.
XM83 Chrome was my favorite channel, probably 70%+ of my listening time. I do not listen to a wide variety of music, and the elimination of XM83 severely limits my enjoyment. I called to complain and make sure my 3 year account doesn’t not renew for a 4th year in Feb 2009. Way to ruin a good thing!
The change from Cross Country to Outlaw Country is a disaster. XM went from an adult station to one where DJ’s rhyme their sentances and have nicknames like Mojo and Hillbilly. It’s bad AM radio without commercials. Sometimes, I think I would rather listen to commercials. I have XM radio because before the merger it offered a station that played music I like which appealed to adults and was not aimed at an audience of thirteen year olds. Like most business decisions, I am sure this was based on money and the dumbing down of an exceptional adult station will save them money. I use satellite radio because I travel a lot by car and I also use it at work and home on the computer. I won’t get rid of it for two years until I retire. But I can guarantee you that I will unsubscribe then if programming has’nt changed. I am tired of listening to CNN and ESPN because Cross Country is no more.
I think XM/Sirius is a sinking ship, and they are misleading all of their subscribers. We were paid up through February and called to cancel and got our money back. I suggest you all do the same, get your money back while you can and let them fail with minimal subscribers. It is amazing how many folks are upset over losing their favorite channel. I liked X Country and listened to it about 95% of the time. All of our tastes are different and that’s what was great about XM, you could find something that worked for you. Now it is all mixed together, Outlaw country was playing Frank Sinatra the other morning, that’s crazy. They obviously don’t know or don’t care about sensible programming. I think all who are upset should jump ship before it sinks with your money!
As soon as the NFL season is over well so is satellite radio for me. They replaced X Country with OutHOUSE Country, and it is a J-O-K-E. Thank goodness my receiver has an auxiliary input. I bought a mp3 player and now pay $14 a month for a subscription to Rhapsody. They have almost all the artist on there from X Country and I have a pretty darn nice playlist. It is no where as near as good as the programming at X Country but it sure as hell beats Outlaw Country by a mile. I WAS loving my satellite xm radio because I added the best of Sirius and I was actually considering adding another subscription. The only way that will happen is if they BRING X COUNTRY BACK.
what the hell is going on with the merger of xm and sirius i have been a subscriber in the pass and love sirius line-up now you have a monopoly on the satellite radio industy and your customers you all act like this is a joke i think we should all tack action on this matter and take there ass to court i have read sevral complants on this matter as people and subscribers we need to stand up on this matter so people listen to this and listen well they take our money and no warning of the new channel line-up as americans we have to fight this and say it’s bullshit so let’s all get together and take there ass to court if it was me to make the merger i’ve would have based it on the subscibers also why didn’t you just add the damn channels from xm to sirius or sirius to xm they should have megered both channel line-ups to one sattlitte company that’s what i would have done and what is this i read on sirius 40 hip hop nation that they are playing censured shit if we want to hear all that and all the talking we can easily listen to the old fm radio so please as people and subscribers stand up on this matter and take there asses to court thanks for your time
Why would u replace the only music of its kind with music u already have on at least two other stations? What u have replaced the Move with is more “techno, trance and rave” which u already have on BPM and System. Move was the only channel that had SOUL in their dance music (some of the time). Now there is NO REAL HOUSE MUSIC that us Blacks and Latinos can enjoy. “That’s Right I said it. I feel it was a racist act. This music is loved mostly by whites (gay & straight). I call it Euro disco. U have enuf of this. I will be changing over in the meantime & in between time. It was real! BYe Bye.
And why take away the only disco channel u have? What’s the reasoning for that? At least that was mixed with music all RACES could enjoy. The whole thing was a bad move especially doing so w/o consulting the listeners. Was this done? See Ya!
The death of Bill Drake deserved much higher placement than number 7. Your number one and number two stories could have easily been combined.
Get this…I used to be a radio “deejay” and I subscribed to XM because I was sick and tired of “air personalities” who think they are “clever”. 90% of the music “air personalities sound like they just got their GED a month ago (they sound like morons.) I subscribed because I wanted to hear MUSIC not some jacka*s talking all over my favorite songs. We had to tolerate this nonsense when terrestrial radio was all we had. Satellite radio was a place to escape from this crap but now the programming “geniuses” have decided we need the same thing on services we PAY for. I find that now I spend much more time listening to my IPOD. The radio in my car has been turned off for weeks. I will NOT be renewing my subscription
I just cancelled my XM subscription. I loved AUDIOVISION, channel 77 and they just dropped it and when i called to talk, they simply told me to listen to SPA channel 72. When you are paying premium prices for specialized music, you should not have to settle for what they suggest. They just want you to listen to Howard. Merging was the worst thing XM ever did. Now we have no choice at all. Thank God I still have a cd player
The only thing that i didn’t like on this merger, is i am a jazz lover smooth jazz that is. The reason i wanted satelite radio is i know they had my type of music on sirus, regular radio where i live didn’t carry it nor will they ever, I liked the jazz cafe that was on sirius, why this watercolors stuff? fortunally to me its not really that much of a difference in the 2. I was hoping on the sports games they would merge all the Big 12 stations together. I am a Big OK.St. fan and i like to listen to the broadcasts but OK.St. is on XM and not sirius.
I got the XM radio’s – one for each car, so that my wife and I could listen to Fox News and NASCAR. Well, Fox news in not commercial free and most of the commercials are frauds anyway and then they removed NASCAR from my channel list. I now have no reason to stay with the service. They tried to make it hard to cancel, but after asking to speak to a manager they finally listened. It is even worse that they can’t speak english. You are right, they are just like everyone else in radio. Will be glad to hear they are going aout of business.
The XM 46 was tremendous. The 46 is just ok.
I pay to not listen to a DJ babbling. If I have to listen to a DJ I am probably going to drop satellite and listen to local as they have the babbling going on. Such a shame a great product ruined.
I was considering going to Sirius, but with the meager, it’s business as usual for quality play lists, not the same artists, songs, and stupid regurgitated DJ chatter (XM 40)to the point of blurring to line of commercial FM! I signed up 10 years ago to escape the exact programming they are shoveling out and actually have the nerve to charge for it! What a pity to waste away this once great service. IPods are starting to look better and better.
I think it’s rotten that you now have to pay an additional fee to get certain Sirius channels, even though you already have XM. But, it doesn’t matter to me because both my husband and I cancelled our XM subscriptions because of their very poor customer service. I didn’t renew my subscription and instead of cancelling it for me, they automatically renewed it without my permission, let the account go delinquent (unbeknownst to me) and then sent me to a collection agency when I failed to pay (even though they didn’t tell me I owed them anything). Pretty scummy if you ask me — I won’t renew no matter what kind of programming they now have!
I have been an xm radio person for 9 + years, I drive long haul truck and this is the only type of radio I can get in some areas, I am becoming fed up with xm taking the talk shows off air at the week end to increase band with for the sports channels, be this left or right wing radio, I mainly listen to the road dog trucking station (171).
They have very limited new programs as it is over the week end and they take at least one hour of the only live program off air for sports!!! I do not care about sports and if I choose to listen to music I have 2 160 gb I pods full of music and another one full of audio books.
get with it XM or I’m gone
