Station Wins Yearly Race to Switch Format to Christmas Music

Thursday October 16, 2008
Radio stations that change their format to Christmas music during the holidays used to start right after Thanksgiving. Then, it began happening earlier and earlier: on Thanksgiving, before Turkey Day, a week before, November 1st.

This year, the winner of the temporary format switch is KSDK/East St. Louis (Illinois) which went all-Christmas on October 10. The word is, the holiday sounds are an interim format until the station makes a complete jump to and all-sports format in January, 2009.

Either way, it wins this year's "Race for the Claus".
