Radio Audio: DJ Resigns On-Air

Thursday October 2, 2008
"Thanks for nothing...Rot in Hell Cox Radio...I am gone."

And that's just a moment of this soon-to-be classic on-air resignation. I don't know the radio personality because the clip was sent to me without that information. But, the DJ confirms he's minutes away from being fired and proceeds to thank his audience for their support and lash out at the management "suits".

Whether you're in Radio or just a listener, you'll appreciate he honesty and emotion in this MP3 audio file.

What a hoot, and to think I had the opportunity to do that twice and never took it; of course he blew his chance to collect unemployment compensation til his next gig.

What’s with these cry babies? That kind of infantile tantrum will go a long way towards closing the door on your career. /btdt

This is so good it brought tears to my eyes and I found myself punching the air and shouting “Yes!”

If only I’d had the opportunity to do this in the past.

I’d love to know who the guy was. He should be in the Radio Hall of Fame!

Florida Jock On Air Resignation A Stunt
Jacksonville FL

MMU and a number of other radio industry sites have been reporting on the recent on air resignation (complete with audio) of Greg Stepp at ROCK 105 in Jacksonville.

Turns out the whole thing was a pre-planned stunt. Stepp had accepted a job programming in California and agreed to the on air prank in order to assist the station in getting some publicity for the return of “The Greaseman” to the afternoon show.

Oh…that’s disappointing. Maybe somebody WILL do it for real one day.
