ESPN Radio Fires Mark Madden Over Senator Kennedy Comment

Thursday May 29, 2008
1250 ESPN Radio/Pittsburgh has fired talk show host, Mark Madden, for comments he made after it was disclosed that Senator Edward Kennedy was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

During his show on May 21, Madden said: "I’m very disappointed to hear that Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts is near death because of a brain tumor. I always hoped Sen. Kennedy would live long enough to be assassinated. I wonder if he got a card from the Kopechnes."

The reference to "the Kopechnes" alludes to an incident involving Mary Jo Kopechne who drowned in Kennedy's car after the vehicle went into a pond near Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts. Kennedy left the scene and didn't report the incident to police for about 10 hours.

Online: Listen live to 1250 am ESPN.
