New Zealand Radio Station Admits April Fool's Concert Hoax

By , About.com Guide   April 1, 2008

Follow me on:

Auckland, New Zealand radio station, The Rock FM, had to back down from an April Fool's gag when things started getting a bit too heated.

The station originally promised listeners an intimate performance by Foo Fighters, expecting maybe to fool 50 listeners who might show up for the fake concert.

According to stuff.co.nz: "But by 5pm yesterday the station was overwhelmed by inquiries and pulled the stunt. It confessed that it was an April Fool's Day gag and apologised to listeners...[saying]...People were booking the day off work and planning to drive or fly to Auckland...and more than 2000 people could have turned up at the venue."

Listen: You can hear The Rock online at therock.net.nz.
