"Imus in the Morning" Taken Off the Air by CBS Radio

Thursday April 12, 2007
This just in from CBS Radio:

CBS today announced its decision to cease broadcasting the Imus in the Morning radio program, effective immediately, on a permanent basis.

"From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed [sic] by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent," said CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves, in announcing the decision. "Those who have spoken with us the last few days represent people of goodwill from all segments of our society – all races, economic groups, men and women alike. In our meetings with concerned groups, there has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society. That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as we made our decision, as have the many emails, phone calls and personal discussions we have had with our colleagues across the CBS Corporation and our many other constituencies."

Imus in the Morning was carried on 61 stations across the United States and distributed over the Westwood One radio network. The cancellation of the program comes after statements Mr. Imus made about the young women who comprised the Rutgers University Women’s Basketball team, which reached the finals of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship this spring.

Moonves concluded: "I want to thank all those who came to see us to express their views. We are now presented with a significant opportunity to expand on our record on issues of diversity, race and gender. We intend to seize that opportunity as we move forward together."

I don’t know why cbs cancel Imus radio program, I did not heard him saying look at these black napping hair hoes. All the young ladies had their hair nice and done and they were not hoes, so what is the big deal. Imus was not the person that start it calling their own napping hair and hoes. Why can they used their energy to go after their own people to stop calling those names to woman. I don’t see these rappers go through all this they are still getting richer and richer and still calling woman of their own hoes.

Why are they not crucifying McGuirk and Sid Rosenberg? Oh by the way Mr. Moonves,I see you are thanking the people who went to see you. I think I could get a group up for a day next week, we might like to drop by and tell you our views, we are all non-black Imus listeners. Oh what is that you say, you have no time? We should write a letter to you instead of visiting? Shame on you for caving into two agitators. You have taken part in one of the saddest things to happen to America….mob rule has begun. I will never bother to watch you tv station or listen to you radio.

I think that they went to far with Imus and not far enough with the real racist like Al Sharpton. The only reason anyone is standing up for anything now is because Imus is white. Had he been black now one would of thought anything. The most put downs and racial slurs on African Americans are from other African Americans. So why doesn’t anyone do anything about that?
